Pusher and Burnisher

23/10/2017

Picture
First time making our own tools from steel.  Proper blacksmithing stuff.

We made a stone setting pusher from steel rod.  One end was heated and forged into a square with rounded edges.  The other was filed into a tapering square for setting into a wooden handle.  The top was given a slight texture by taping with a file.  This will give a bit of friction to reduce slipping under force.

When tapping the hot end of the pusher into the wooden handle, I obviously overdid it and cracked the handle.  Hopefully it will still work ok.

We also made a tiny burnisher out of a broken shank drill.
This conveniently fits into a standard chuck handle.
