"Moving Scenes" - Future Designs
I named this series "Moving Scenes" in a moment of panic back at Christmas when I applied for the Precious Metal Grant.
I figured I'd come up with a better name later on, but have realised that this name actually has 2 meanings.
This is what I came up with last module, in my elevator pitch:
"I wanted the word “moving” to refer both to the mechanical motion, and also the emotional nature of the picturesque and calming scenes."
Two major design flaws have become apparent during manufacture.
1. Although I reduced the total weight by having cut outs in the case sides, the moving components can fall through these holes, which makes assembly difficult and makes he laser welded jump rings necessary to keep them centred. I believe I can eliminate this need, by filling in the side holes and making the moving components a much snugger fit.
2. It would be desirable to be able to stand the pendants upright. Partly to reduce damage to the rear plate, but also allow them to double up as miniature sculptures. Any future iteration will have flat sides and longer rear plates to make this possible.

These are a couple of extra designs I came up with back at Christmas, when I was applying for the Precious Metal Grant.
I decided against them at the time because I feared I'd been caught in the common CAD trap of not realising how tiny the actual details are. However I shall revisit them down the road. |
