Disappointed by the results I was getting from using the rolling mill to produce my brick pattern, I spent the weekend piercing out bricks from a sheet of steel.
This is going to be used with the Mario Di Maio 210 tonne press. |

My copper sheet and steel pattern are sandwiched between two extremely heavy blocks of steel, with carpet offcuts to push the copper into the holes.
Just like the rolling mill experiments, small test pieces worked beautifully under low pressure (20-30 tonnes). However the actual larger pieces needed several attempts and reannealing. The final pressure needed was 70 tonnes.
