01/10/2018 Brief
"Objectives
You will design and create a body of work in response to external client/agency briefs. The precise details of the brief requirements are recorded within the external competition briefs provided and are supported by this Module brief.
You will present the key aspects of your project outcomes to your tutor and cohort, and in addition, you will write a report critically reflecting on the strengths and weaknesses of these outcomes, considering your peer feedback, your understanding of the external agency and identifying any areas for future skills development.
Project
You are required to respond to five external briefs to design/create presentation drawing boards for the following:
• Salt & Pepper Condiment Set –based on your existing products (2D.2)
• Goblet –executed during your summer vacation (BATF)
• Medal –based on your existing design / GCDC plastic waste theme (BAMS)/(2D.3)
• Necklace –based on the Goldsmiths’ Competition brief (2D.8)
• NAJ Chair’s Pin – based on the Goldsmiths’ Competition brief (2D.5)
Each of the five professional presentation boards will include a rendered drawing and a supporting statement, with additional details, as required by the external agent.
The supporting statement on each submission should be 150 words.
You will have introductions to the following;
• Rendering metal
• Rendering gemstones
• Exploded drawings
• Presentation boards
• Presenting on the human form
The summary report, critically reflecting on the strengths and weaknesses of your outcomes, should be 750 words in length. As a report this may be written with bullet points, or sub-titles, considering your peer feedback to your design proposals and presentation boards; your understanding of the external agency and working within this format; and identifying any areas where you see scope for developing your skills further."

First thing we did was a quick introduction to rendering metal with gouache. I can't really get my head round how to make such a matt medium look metallic.
At a later date, I repeated the exercise with pastels, but wasn't impressed with the results.
