19/01/2019 - Broken Stones

This project has not been without it's casualities.
I've broken 5 stones in total.  One was dropped, 3 were dropped whilst in a plastic container and one cracked as I flared open the rear tube to secure it into a full casting pendant.

I have therefore realised that the donut shape is quite fragile.  A cabochon of this size, would end up much thicker in the centre, and would therefore be much stronger.  The ones with the hole off-centre are particularly fragile because one side ends up much thinner.

Is this why donuts are so cheap?  They are thinner overall and use less material?
