13/01/2019 - Drop Earrings

The drop earrings with caged stones were always going to be the hardest.
My laser welding skills leave a lot to be desired.  I blame this on being short, as I can look through the microscope and hold the piece in the chamber.  Or I can hold the piece in the chamber and reach the foot pedal.  But not all three at the same time.
As such I find it hard to see exactly where the laser is going to fire.
However I managed to weld my stones into their cages by the Wednesday before hand-in and was pretty pleased with myself.

Disaster though when I was tube setting the amethysts and the welds on both earrings failed.
So, an early start on submission day as I had to make sure I could get on the welder bright and early.
Lesson learnt: set all stones, then laser welding is the very last thing.
