11/12/2017 Scoring & Folding

Picture
A special angled cutting tool is required for scoring and this method us only suitable for straight lines.

First the desired line is marked with a straight edge and scriber.
Picture
The scroring tool is then drawn firmly down the marked line.

An effective tool will remove tiny curls of the material and can be sharpened with an oil stone.
Picture
This scoring process is long and easy to mess up, with many lines cut in error causing a generally messy surface.
But as long as the correct line is sufficiently defined, it should be ok.

The grove depth should be approximately 2/3 - 3/4 through the metal and the line should start to become visible on the reverse.
The sheet should then bend easily by hand.
