24/09/2018 - Summer Holiday Work
I did a lot of work over the summer holiday. Courses, visits, craft markets and lots of making.
These are a couple of things that might be useful for this project:

Trillion Cut Apatite
I try to post photos of anything I finish, or have on the go, on Instagram & Facebook.
In the background of one such photo, was this trillion cut apatite. A friend, spotted it and asked for it to be made into a ring. Here are the designs I came up with. They may come in useful as there are 2 trillion cut stones in my batch for this project. |
Compton Verney - The Miraculous Mechanical Museum
Following a recommendation from our Artist in Residence, Vanessa, I visited Compton Verney to see the "Marvellous Mechanical Museum" exhibition. It was a fabulous collection of mechanical sculpture and automata, my current obsession.
The artist who particularly stood out was Jane Edden, with her miniature automata. Presented as art works, they were very nearly jewellery in their dimensions and aesthetics.
After last years kinetic jewellery project, I know I'm always going to want to include a moving aspect in my designs, and the maypole theme actually really suits this.
