29/09/2018 - Weston Beamor Visit
A trip round the corner to Weston Beamor today. I've wondered what goes on in there for years. Time to find out.
We had a short talk from two of the company's leading lights, and I jotted down a few things to bear in mind:
Moldability
Weight
Assembly
Polishing
Branding/name
Traditional settings
Thickness
Y shaped sprue
3 parts max
We then had a tour around the building (Hamed was delighted we'd come to see him at work).
I must admit I had real flashbacks to my own time in industry. You could tell everyone was working under pressure to tight deadlines. My suspicions were confirmed when (weeks later) our old collegue Mark Mason stopped in. He is now working there as a stone-setter and said it was "harsh".
I definitely need to work for myself. I can't go back to that kind of corporate environment.
Anyway, regarding my design, I’ve clearly gone too complicated.
I'd still love to make both my kinetic ideas, but the cocktail ring needs to be much simpler in order to be manufactured by WB.
We weren't allowed to take photos inside the building, but this group picture was posted online by the SoJ .
