24/10/2018 - Advert Ideas
I’ve been really looking forward to this part of the project. I love using Photoshop and marketing material is not something we’ve done before.
This is my initial idea. Getting an existing ring and photographing it around a bundle of ribbons. I can then replace the ring with a Matrix render. As in the sketch, I could also do it with the fans in both positions. I could also use roses/flowers instead of the ribbons. My other idea is a green field & blue sky (like I used for the background of my maypole mood board). Think spring weddings, marquees and Cotswold stone. |
So these are my attempts with my own photographs. They're fine, but there are much better images out there.
As my CAD model is still in progress, I've used some really poor quality screen shots to mock-up the rest of the layout. I didn't want to call the piece "Maypole" or "May". That would be too obvious. So I chose "April". It doesn't have two meanings like "May" and could be someone's name. |
The "stay playful" tagline just sprang into my head. I wanted to use the word "play" to reflect the kinetic element of my design and the fact that maypole dancing is traditionally performed by youngsters.
Below are the mock-ups I did with downloaded photos. They are all from all-free-download.com and were completely free with a public domain license.

On the left, is the idea I mentioned above. A field and sky. I couldn't find a suitable green field in the public domain, but I like the golden colour.
It's OK, but not very inspiring. Whist browsing photos, I found this one with a girl hiding in a field. I loved the composition and the idea of having someone in the picture. However, we as humans, are always drawn to faces and although she's beautiful, I think it's just too distracting.

On the left is a version with a more abstract background. It's too cluttered.
And finally, I absolutely love this version.
It has human interest, lovely lighting, and the field/sky idea I originally wanted. She's a carefree girl (of indeterminate age) with golden hair to match the yellow gold of the ring, and is even wearing a green top. The image is not perfect and needs some editing, but this is definitely a winner. |
