20/12/2017 Curio Cutting

Picture
My christmas present to myself was a Silhouette Curio cutting & embossing machine.
It works like an old plotter but has various tools including a cutting knife.
I've seen people use it to cut metal clay (which is why I wanted one) but it's been REALLY useful for making the models for this project.

Picture
I had originally drawn out my cutting plan in Word, so I imported it into the Silhouette software.

I used recycled kraft card and set the knife depth to just score, rather than cut through the card.
I could then cut the pieces out with scissors.

The resulting pieces were then assembled into models using tape and glue.

Addendum:  Later on, I used the Curio with a deeper cut, to produce brick texture sheets (shown) to put through the rolling mill.  Ultimately this didn't work as the card was not thick enough (and I'm not sure the Curio is capable of cutting a thickness that would be enough).
