03/01/2018 Sarehole Mill Trip
I have been visiting Sarehole Mill for the annual Middle Earth Festival for many years, first as a punter and more recently having a stall to sell my jewellery. It’s always very successful and is here that my first commission was ordered.
This watermill and playing field are across the road from one of Tolkien’s childhood homes and were, at that time, in a very rural area. It is now surrounded by the Birmingham suburbs of Hall Green & Moseley. |
It was during a recent Middle Earth Festival that I first saw the steel sculptures of Perrott's Folly and the Edgbaston Waterworks Tower. So when I started this project I went about finding out about these fabulous models.
Tim Tolkien (J.R.R. Tolkien’s great nephew and west midlands based sculptor, made the models originally for Birmingham's 2013 submission for the Chelsea Flower Show.
