Fine Jewellery Techniques (JEW4035)
20/04/2018 - Final Build 2
Loads done today. I soldered the “moon” bezel onto the small cog, and the “sun” bezel onto the large cog.
I made 6 tiny star shaped rivets to fix the abalone background.
I also made some tiny silver washers by flattening jump rings. These will allow the pivots to rotate.

I made the large outer wall of the “cup” (just like any other ring), and soldered it in place along with the central tube.
I'm starting to have second thoughts about the abalone background. Is it going to be too colorful & distracting? Will it clash with the orange “sun” carnelian.?
I also have sheets of laminated white mother of pearl (not really suitable for deep space) and black mussel shell. However these are made of strips, so my background would have very noticeable joins.
I opted for the original abalone and needed 2 attempts to cut it out. The laminate is very thin and brittle but soft and so easy to remove too much material.
