11/02/2018 - Purton Trip
My first research trip is down to Purton on the Severn Estuary.
To stabilise a narrow strip of land between the Severn and the canal, a number of boats and barges were grounded in 1950s.
These are known as the Purton Hulks and are still partly visible half buried in the riverbank.

This is such a wonderful site and I took A LOT of photos.
Of course what I really wanted was close ups of the weathered woodgrain.
These pieces really fascinated me. They appear almost "pixellated" with layers of squared shapes forming the grain patterns that we would normally expect to be curved and flowing.
Home time.
