16/04/2018 -Reverse
Having talked though my original abstract idea for the medal reverse with Jo, she rightly pointed out that the design should tell the story on it's own. My current idea needs an accompanying essay to make any sense of it :-)
I have no idea how she talked me into it, but I came away having decided to attempt a naturalistic portrait of a homeless person. This is way out of my comfort zone as I always try hard to avoid portraits of any description. |
However, much to my shock and surprise, it came out really well. My initial attempt at the dog came out more like a pig, so I turned his head round to face the viewer.
He's now a little like an Aardman dog, but as log as he's recognisable as a dog then I'm ok with that.

I really liked the tool marks I was getting on this side, so decided to carve a sample block with all the different tools I had available.
