09/04/2018 -The Casting is Back

Well, our CAD files have been 3D printed and cast in silver...  And they are terrible!
I wouldn't mind the overall texture that is a result of the printing process, however they also have holes, gouges, ridges and changes of level that were not present in the design.
I thought this was the cutting edge of jewellery manufacturing technology, but it's pants!

The flaws on the edges and very top surfaces could be buffed out to a degree, but we were advised not to try and clean up the recessed areas because it would never turn out well.  All I attempted was to lessen the appearance of the change in level in the oak leaf.  I did this with a 1mm ball burr in the same direction as the printing lines.
