A few solutions exist for allowing customers with arthritic knuckles to wear rings. One involves placing small balls at the 4 and 8 o'clock positions of the band. These balls (colloquially known as speed bumps) allow the ring to slide over the knuckle but reduce spinning on the thinner part of the finger. Another design feature is to make part of the ring hinged, so it can be placed directly on the lower part of the finger and avoid the swollen knuckle.
