Buffing & Polishing

We were shown how to make our own "buff sticks" by wrapping full sheets of wet & dry emery paper round wooden sticks.
We made sticks ranging in grade from 320 to 1200 (and I added 240 & 2000 because I happened to have that paper as well).
A week later in our second session, we were shown how to use (and signed off on) the polishing motor.

I think it was a mistake to leave polishing so late in the module.  It's best not put any tool marks onto the metal in the first place.  However because all that was available to us for so long was filing, many of us (myself included) made a right mess of our rings in an attempt to make them look good.  This resulted in much more buffing work than should have been necessary.  Had we made a couple of rings and then immediately learned buffing and polishing, we probably would have had better results and wasted less time.
